"It was on this day, sixteen centuries ago," the Emperor began, "that the union we call the Federation was founded. We first had met each other with hostility," his tail flicks about for a moment. "But since then we have become close like brethren. From the crafty humans, to the strategic Myrmidons, together, we have been through thick and thin, and we have survived longer than any known civilization. And if we can boast of such feats, who is to say we cannot defeat the Oppository Forces? Bear with me, as I show you the moments that lead to our people's first contact."

---------------

Jack was nervous.

I mean, that was to be expected. Anyone who's about to go down in history would be. But whether he would go down for a great triumph or a horrific failure, he wasn't that sure.

"You ready Jack?" the launch supervisor asks into his headset.

"Ready as I'll ever be," he replies, shaking slightly.

"Begin course to the Terran exosphere, and begin countdown."

"10... 9... 8..."

---------------

"This day, Tuesday January First, of the New Millennium 3000, will go down in history as one of our species's most important moments," the reporter says towards the audience. "As the New Millennium begins, we shall see what lies behind the veil that is our universe, and perhaps what lies beyond. We here at Galactic Channel Six News will keep you posted."

---------------

"7... 6...5..."

Jack watched as stars appeared in the sky, until the sky itself faded to black, as he exited the Terran atmosphere. The engines roared behind him in preparation of what was to come.

"4... 3... 2... 1..."

Jack held his breath in anticipation.

"0! Initiate Project Odyssey!"

---------------

Judy watched as the vessel disappeared in a vortex of light. Damn, she thought, that looks impressive.

---------------

A week or so has passed since Jack sailed into the unknown, and the galaxy was waiting for his transmissions to arrive, even though there was hardly a chance of there being any now. The scanner supervisor sips his coffee drowsily, and the scanner replies with something that wakes him up faster than any coffee.

Scattered throughout the galaxy that the human race calls home, tears are forming. The tears are in space-time itself, and they conceal vortices of light. And from each tear, a vessel arrives, each different and containing life unknown to the human race.

This marks the beginning of the saga known as:

The Renaissance of Creation: The Archaic War
This may be the beginning of a series if people like it enough. We shall see.
